Om inkommande UTF8-meddelanden ser skumma ut i irssi kan följande vara på sin plats.
Omkodar UTF8 till valt charset. Observera att klienter som ansluter via irssis proxy-modul
får omodifierad data. Problemet löses i den ändan t.ex. genom att använda [[http://brutus.ath.cx/~jetthe/utf8decoder.py|utf8decoder.py]] till X-Chat (vers <2.6.8).
I versioner >=2.6.8 av X-Chat kan ///charset IRC// användas, se http://forum.xchat.org/viewtopic.php?t=3180.\\
